T-Birds Send Eight Wrestlers to Regionals, Scots Send Four

Shorewood's Leach, Shorecrest's Loeza and Bolstad win subregional titles

Shorewood senior Brandon Leach won the 119-pound 3A District 1 title at Sedro-Woolley High School, Feb. 5 to head the list of eight T-birds headed to 3A regionals Feb. 12.

Shorecrest had two district champions, senior 189-pounder Alejandro Loeza and junior 285-pounder Ian Bolstad, to top list of four Scots moving onto the regional touranment at Glacier Peak.

Loeza won all three of his matches by pin including a victory over Lynnwood's Nick Ulke in 4 minutes and 38 seconds in the title match.

Bolstad also pinned three opponents, concluding his day by finishing off Levi Carrol of Everett in 4:43.

Sophomore Joseph Dexter of Shorecrest placed fourth at 171 pounds and will move on. Senior Drew Arbanasin placed fourth at 152 pounds and will represent the Scots as well.

Leach won his first three matches by pin before beating Jessie Lopez of Everett, 8-2, in the 119-pound title match. Leach, who placed eighth at state last year at 119 pounds, is a favorite to return to the Mat Classic at next week's regionals.

Also qualifying for regionals for the T-birds were junior Alex Lee (third, 103 pounds), freshman Matthew Floresca (second, 112 pounds), senior Daniel Yun (fifth, 112 pounds), senior Kyle Floresca (second, 135 pounds), junior David Ball (fourth, 145 pounds), senior Joel Smith (third, 189 pounds), senior Taylor Winsor (fourth, 285 pounds).

Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley tied for the team title with 221.5 points, leading 11 teams competing. Shorewood placed sixth with 164.5 points while Shorecrest finished eighth with 149.5 points.
