Undercover Police Targeting Crosswalk Violators
Be careful out there. That person walking across the street could be a plainsclothes police officer ready to write you a $124 ticket.
If you tend to blow right through crosswalks without thinking of pedestrian safety, you may be on the city of Shoreline's radar.
The city says it has received complaints about drivers failing to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks.
As a result of the complaints, as well as accident investigations involving pedestrians, the Shoreline Police Department's Traffic Unit is stepping up its patrol of crosswalks throughout the city.
Shoreline traffic officers dressed in plain clothes are now walking across many of the city's crosswalks.
The law states that drivers must stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk. Those who violate this law will be stopped and cited.

After one emphasis patrol, officers wrote 13 crosswalk infractions. Three subjects did not have insurance, one driver did not have a current license, one driver did not have a registration for his vehicle and one driver was arrested for driving under the influence. This occurred at two separate locations.
The Shoreline Police will continue random enforcement of the crosswalks throughout the year.
The fine for this infraction is $124. All fines are used to pay for Shoreline Court operating costs.
