With demolition nearly finished on his property and more permits in the pipeline, city officials say multiple demolition and asbestos reviews are underway as more residents prepare to rebuild.
   

2. Lions Learning Center planned for Riverfront Park (spokanecity.org) — Spokane's Riverfront Park could soon gain a new outdoor classroom if the Spokane Central Lions Club raises the final $100,000 needed for its Lions Learning Center project. Planned under a refurbished Expo '74 shelter near the Post Street Bridge, the space would host school and community groups, feature nature-focused learning areas, and rely entirely on local donations and in‑kind work.
   

3. Volunteer Pilots Patrol The Skies For Spokane County Sheriff's Office (aero-news.net) — Volunteer helicopter pilots are quietly boosting public safety for Spokane County by flying weekend patrols for the Sheriff's Office, helping with searches, pursuits, fires and rescues. The Spokane Regional Air Support Unit now operates three helicopters with infrared cameras and rescue gear, all flown by unpaid pilots like retired combat rescuer Sam Pierce. Their goal is to prevent dangerous chases and speed up emergency responses across the region.
   

4. Washington state employees stage walkouts in Spokane, statewide over contract negotiations (krem.com) — State employees in Spokane walked off the job Monday, joining more than 100 worksites statewide to demand higher pay, stronger contracts and more staffing. Local union members say chronic shortages are straining vital services like health care, child welfare and food assistance, especially after recent wildfire response efforts. The walkouts aim to pressure Gov. Bob Ferguson's team back to the bargaining table with a better offer.
   

5. Spokane Valley church assists with fire clean up (krem.com) — Cleanup after the Spokane Complex Fires is ramping up, with Valleypoint Church in Spokane Valley serving as a key hub for Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers helping residents sort debris and recover belongings. The team has already completed dozens of assessments and cleanup jobs, and officials are urging more locals to sign up online to support neighbors still waiting for assistance.
