The driver, accused of transporting five children at the time, now faces vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, and DUI charges, with a court hearing set for Thursday, Sept. 24.
3. Spokane credit unions host first-ever Money IRL event to teach high schoolers financial skills (kxly920.com) — Spokane teens just got a hands-on crash course in real-world money skills as 1,500 students from around 10 Spokane County districts filled the Spokane Convention Center for the first-ever Money IRL event. Local credit unions led interactive budgeting simulations and workshops, and organizers hope to expand the free financial education experience next year.
4. Fire relief donations overflow in Spokane Valley as organizations redirect excess support (kxly920.com) — Spokane Valley's Partners Inland Northwest has received a year's worth of fire relief donations in just six weeks and is now helping about 400 local survivors and sharing supplies with other Spokane organizations. With clothing and hygiene shelves full, the group is now only accepting food and is recruiting volunteers through Volunteer Spokane to sort remaining donations.
5. 'Making core memories': Mt. Spokane outlasts rival Mead in five-set thriller in front of massive crowd at Union Stadium (spokesman.com) — Spokane sports fans just witnessed a first: an outdoor high school volleyball showdown at Union Stadium where Mt. Spokane edged rival Mead in a five-set thriller. The northside schools drew about 2,000 spectators, showcased top local talent, and set the tone for upcoming Greater Spokane League play and next month's Cat Fight rematch.
