Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:

  1. The Spokane Regional Health District went live on Facebook to answer questions regarding COVID-19 restrictions throughout the area. According to the officials with the district, COVID-19 related hospitalizations saw a 42 percent decrease in the Spokane metro area. Despite the decrease, school-age children were affected dramatically more during the latest variant. Mask mandates will remain in place. (KREM.com)
  2. Detention Services Director Mike Sarber has been named the first senior director of law and justice with Spokane County. The new position will oversee departments related to the criminal justice system within the County. The appointment of Sarber comes after Maggie Yates resigned from the position of Spokane Regional Law and Justice Administrator last month. (The Spokesman Review)
  3. Local charity City Gate had its van stolen and severely damaged. The van was used to transport food to their food bank that supplies over two hundred local homeless people with something to eat. The van was recovered by the Spokane Police Department with roughly $20,000 worth of damages throughout the vehicle. The charity has created a donation page on its website for the community to contribute towards purchasing a new van. (KHQ Right Now)
