Greyhound Lines To Pay $2.2M Over Lawsuit + Vaccine Distribution
Here's a five-minute guide to everything worth knowing today in town.
Hey, people of Spokane! It's me again, Sean Peek, your host of the Spokane Daily.
First, today's weather:
Possible light rain in the morning and afternoon. High: 61 Low: 43.
Here are the top stories today in Spokane:
- Greyhound Lines Inc. will pay $2.2 million to settle a lawsuit over the bus line's practice of allowing U.S. Customs & Border Protection agents to board its buses in Washington state to conduct warrantless immigration sweeps, the state attorney general said Monday. The money will provide restitution to those passengers who were detained, arrested, or deported after immigration agents boarded buses at the Spokane Intermodal Center. (FOX 28 Spokane)
- Thanks to the same emergency mobilization system that allows a city like Spokane to send its firefighters to a wildfire burning halfway across the state, area firefighters were sent north this spring to help meet the surge of demand for the COVID-19 vaccine in rural communities. It helped health officials streamline the process and ease the burden on existing providers, including Newport Hospital, in the early weeks after many people first became eligible for the vaccine. (The Spokesman Review)
- After months of deliberation, the Spokane City Council is poised to finalize its process for distributing $81 million in American Rescue Plan funding. The city also announced Thursday that it will hold a virtual forum on Tuesday to garner public feedback about how the money should be spent. (The Spokesman Review)
