Here are the top three stories today in Spokane:
- On Tuesday night, Spokane police arrested a man who was accused of trying to burn down his ex-wife's house. The woman called police to her house, stating her ex-husband was intoxicated and had crashed his car through the garage door. 40-year-old Karim Hattal was arrested at the home, located near East 35th Ave. and South Smith St., and was booked into the Spokane Regional Jail Facility for first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, first-degree attempted arson, and second-degree malicious mischief. - A new gelato shop opened this past weekend in Spokane. Tre Palline Gelato Napolitano recently opened in the Steam Plant building and offers 100% authentic and all natural Italian gelato, including vegan, egg-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free options. The new shop is located at 159 S Lincoln St, Suite #161 and beginning Thursday, will offer downtown delivery during select times. (KXLY Spokane)
- Spokane area school districts are in need of emergency substitutes as COVID-19 cases spike. Both Spokane Public Schools and the Central Valley School District expressed they haven't had a need for substitutes like this in years, and are looking for people with either a two-year or four-year degree, in any subject, to possibly become a substitute. Prior to calling in emergency substitutes, the district must first exhaust all options including assigning all other regular substitutes. (KXLY Spokane)
