The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Spokane.

Good morning, Spokane! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to celebrate the New Year, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and I will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Spokane Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today.

First, today's weather:

Frigid with sun and clouds. High: 15 Low: -2.

Here are the top stories in Spokane today:

  1. According to the National Weather Service, another two inches of snow is expected to fall in Spokane Thursday afternoon. Four things to know about the weather include light snow showers, single-digit temperatures tonight, sub-zero temperatures starting Saturday, and warmer temperatures next week. (KXLY Spokane)
  2. Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest recently announced plans to build a new 60,000-square-foot facility here. Goodwill Industries purchased 6 acres of land at the southeast corner of Deer Heights Road and Flight Drive that will serve multiple purposes, but over half of the facility will be designated for salvage space that allows the bulk sale of products that don't sell in the retail stores. (Cheney Free Press)
  3. US-2 interchange on I-90 EB was closed due to a jackknifed semi-truck on Dec. 30 but at 4 p.m. EST, the right lane of eastbound I-90 at the US-2 interchange has reopened. After the accident, 50-60 gallons of diesel did end up on the roadway. Crews are still working on the cleanup. (KHQ Right Now)
