Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Spokane Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Spokane long term. First, today's weather:
Sunny, but very cold. High: 25 Low: 6.
Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:
- Former Spokane County Craig Chamberlin deputy has been fired while running for Spokane County sheriff. According to current sheriff Ozzie Knezovich, Chamberlin was terminated for writing a character reference — without departmental permission — for an individual charged with possession of child pornography. Chamberlin was not involved in the investigation that he submitted a character reference in relation to, and has stated that he was unaware of the details of the case. (KXLY Spokane)
- An entrepreneur and neon sign maker are teaming up to fill Spokane with neon light. In recent years, LED lights have become incredibly popular while neon signage has seen a dramatic decrease in popularity. Tony Braun has been bending neon for decades and is now bringing his talents to Spokane with the help of Chris Bovey who has recently obtained a neon signage store. (KREM.com)
- The city of Spokane is searching for a location to provide temporary emergency shelter to the homeless population. The need for emergency shelter is in response to the cold snap that will likely hit the region next week. When the outside temperature drops below 32 degrees, the City of Spokane is required by law to provide warming shelter for those who need it. (KHQ Right Now)
