🌱 Spokane Police Don't Want Teslas + New Democrat County Chair
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Spokane.
Morning, people of Spokane! It's me again, Sean Peek, your host of the Spokane Daily.
First, today's weather:
A brief shower or two. High: 57 Low: 43.
Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:
- The Spokane Police Department apparently does not want to use Teslas after the city piloted two of the vehicles for police use earlier this year. According to leaders with the department, Telsa electric cars are too small for police use due to being built for consumer use. Department members reportedly prefer the Ford K8 hybrids the officers currently have. The Spokane City Council is determined to have electric vehicles for governmental use. (The Spokesman Review)
- Spokane native Carmela Conroy has been named the Spokane County Democrats Chair. Conroy is a former Foreign Service officer with experience as a Spokane County deputy prosecutor. She hopes to use her new position to recruit qualified strong candidates to fill the ballots while listening to every member of the County Democrats. (The Spokesman Review)
- Tyler Cashmere, 12, is helping Spokane's homeless population through a GoFundMe page. Cashmere brought the goods and money he raised to the Salvation Army's The Way Out Center in North Central Spokane this past weekend. The Center gave Cashmere an award recognizing his commitment to helping those less fortunate. (KHQ Right Now)
Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks. Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start.
Betera has extended their 15% discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.
