Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Sean Peek, your host of the Spokane Daily.

First, today's weather:

A couple of afternoon showers. High: 52 Low: 43.

Here are the top stories today in Spokane:

  1. Spokane police received multiple reports of a phone scam operation targeting several businesses in the area. The scams occurred on Sunday, Oct. 24. The caller(s) identify themselves as local law enforcement officials, directing young employees to working at the time to take money from cash registers and transfer the funds to gift cards. According to SPD officials, these scammers are using a technique called "spoofing" software. This software allows a caller to change the phone number as seen by a call recipient, in this case making it seem like law enforcement was calling. (KREM.com)
  2. SFCC Food Pantry Director Sarah Knowles remembers the stigma of food banks, the type of people who use them, and the variety of food offered. For many students – SFCC included – that's common: an unwritten rule to not accept help in the form of free food, not until it's the last safety net before rock bottom. For the last 3 years or so, the SFCC Food Pantry in the Student Union Building on campus has been her passion. It started as a paid position in the Associated Student Government responsible for the food bank, then grew this year as she moved into a part-time role at the college where she oversees the entire operation. 3. The Spokane City Council will consider adding 20 mph zones near three local schools at their Monday meeting. If adopted, new speed zones will be added outside of Gonzaga Preparatory, Pauline Flett Middle, and Denny Yasuhara Middle Schools. (KXLY Spokane)
  4. A reward is being offered to anyone with information that can lead detectives to the suspect in a Spokane Valley murder. Kayla J. Holden, 29, is wanted for first-degree murder and first-degree robbery in 31-year-old Allyson Davis' death. (KXLY Spokane)
  5. Police are searching for any information regarding a shooting that happened early Sunday morning near E Nebraska Ave and N Helena St in Northeast Spokane. The shooting sent one juvenile to the hospital. (KHQ Right Now)
