Here are the top stories in Spokane today:
- On Wednesday, the Gonzaga Center for Climate, Society and the Environment hosted its annual Spokane Candidates Climate Change Forum. During the forum, the candidates answered questions related to their visions for successfully addressing climate change in Spokane. The general election will be held on Nov. 2. (Bulletin)
- The Spokane City Council unanimously passed a resolution Monday night giving people more time to pay off past due utility bills without their service being shut off. According to Spokane Public Works Director Marlene Feist, about 7,500 customers had utility bills that were more than 30 days past due. With the passing of the resolution, customers that can't pay the past due balances at once have another option to avoid utility shutoffs when the moratorium ends - by setting up a payment plan with the city (KREM.com)
- New data from the Office of Financial Management says 89.53-percent of Washington state employees were fully vaccinated as of Oct. 4. (KXLY Spokane)
- Spokane County's next drug take-back day will be held via drive-thru. People can dispose of their expired, unused, and unwanted medications on Oct. 23. Vaping devices without batteries will also be accepted, but no needles. (KXLY Spokane)
- Spokane police arrested 30-year-old Chester Gray Tuesday morning in connection to a stabbing in the Sprague Union District. (KREM.com)
