🌱 Spokane Hoopfest + Sober Spokane + Snowfall Causes Closures
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Spokane.
Morning, neighbors! It's me again, Sean Peek, your host of the Spokane Daily.
First, today's weather:
Snow in the afternoon. High: 34 Low: 22.
Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:
- Spokane Hoopfest has hired Riley Stockton as their new executive director. He will replace Matt Santangelo, who announced his departure to take opportunities in the medical device sales field. Stockton's prior experience includes playing basketball in Spokane and Seattle, from high school basketball at Ferris and participating in Hoopfest to four years playing at Seattle Pacific University. (KHQ Right Now)
- Spokane's streets are once again covered in a blanket of snow just a day after the city finished a 3-day, full-city plow. In addition, Snoqualmie Pass was shut down in both directions due to heavy snowfall. Any cars without all-wheel drive must have chains and drivers should be aware that there are areas of low visibility due to the snowfall. (KHQ Right Now)
- As a part of a Sober Spokane event, participating restaurants in Spokane County removed alcohol from the menu completely to serve mocktails or drinks with a low alcohol volume on Monday. The event took place on Jan. 3, in an effort to support sobriety and promote Dry January. Participating restaurants included Wiley's Bistro, Prohibition Gastropub, Lion's Liar, and Wooden City.
