  1. Spokane Tribe Casino opened sports betting just in time for Super Bowl LVI. The casino opened its Caesars Sportsbook on Thursday, following a Nov. 2021 building expansion. Javier De La Rosa, Spokane Tribe Casino general manager, told KREM that this new sportsbook is attracting a younger demographic to the casino, and said they will be "looking forward to hosting sports betting for other major sporting events."   2. A former health officer is suing the Spokane Regional Health District alleging wrongful termination and defamation dating back to October 2020. Dr. Bob Lutz filed the lawsuit on Tuesday in Spokane County Superior Court against the health district. The lawsuit names the health district's administrator Amelia Clark and contains similar allegations as a damages claim delivered to the health district last fall. Dr. Lutz alleges he was politically pressured to ease COVID-19 restrictions and limit his public statements condemning racism before being fired in violation of state law and health district policies.   3. High schools and middle schools in the Spokane area are holding their third annual fundraiser for the Spokane Neighborhood Partners Program, or SNAP. The non-profit organization assists families in low-income neighborhoods with housing and utility needs. The fundraiser is called the "Keep the Lights On Spirit Competition" where each school aims to reach $1,500 in donations, aiming for $20,000 overall. So far, participating schools have already raised a quarter of the collective goal. (KXLY Spokane)
