Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:
- A woman was hit by a car and killed near Spokane's Mission Park on Monday night. Just after 6:00 p.m., the victim was struck while crossing the street at Columbus and North Superior. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver involved in the accident is cooperating with the investigation. (KXLY Spokane)
- Due to staffing shortages, the Spokane Regional Health District's community COVID testing sites have suspended walk-ups. As of Tuesday, the two mass testing sites at Spokane County Fair & Expo Center and Spokane Falls Community College remain open by appointment only. Staffing levels will continue to be evaluated to determine when walk-ups will be allowed again. (KHQ Right Now)
- The Spokane School Board wants to increase the emergency substitute teacher pay rate for the remainder of the current school year. The rate currently sits at $150 per day — the school board is looking to increase that pay rate to $200 per day. Of the 424-certified substitutes, only 30 percent of those people are accepting substitute assignments, according to the school board agenda. (KXLY Spokane)
