🌱 Teen's Manslaughter Charges + No Walk-Ups At SRHD COVID Sites
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Spokane.
Up and at 'em, Spokane! Here's everything you need to know to get this Tuesday started off right.
First, today's weather:
Freezing fog in the morning. High: 34 Low: 25.
Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:
- A man has been arrested after entering a woman's car armed with a knife and threatening to hurt her. 43-year-old Ivory Washington entered the woman's car while she was stopped at a North Spokane store. The woman drove around with Washington in tow for hours, after which he threatened to harm her; fortunately, she was able to escape the vehicle and was not seriously hurt. (FOX 28 Spokane)
- A 17-year-old is facing a vehicular homicide charge following a crash that killed an 18-year-old. Early Sunday morning, Spokane Valley deputies found a vehicle on its side in the front yard of a home. The juvenile driver and two passengers, a 19-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, were extricated from the car and taken to the hospital; the 18-year-old passed away at the hospital. Deputies suspect the driver was impaired, so they obtained a blood sample for testing. (KXLY Spokane)
- Due to ongoing staffing issues, Spokane County's mass-testing sites at Spokane County Fair & Expo Center and Spokane Falls Community College were unable to accommodate walk-up testing. Both sites have been by appointment only since Thursday; they will continue to evaluate staffing levels and make changes accordingly. Appointments can be scheduled on the Spokane Regional Health District website. (KHQ Right Now)

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They're chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond "Dry January." We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we've since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.
Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they've extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
Today in Spokane:
- Fine Art Gallery Exhibition: Where Do You End, And I Begin? - Spokane Falls Community College (8:30 AM)
- Club 21/RCS Board Meeting - Spokane Rotary Club 21 (12:00 PM)
- Cheney Library Book Club - Spokane County Library District (6:30 PM)
From my notebook:
- Home prices spiked 16.9 percent in 2021, in large part due to a lack of inventory. Spokane is currently sitting at a 10-day supply of homes — a far cry from the three months' supply seen in years past. (KXLY Spokane)
- Need a recommendation for your next movie night? Spokane Public Library shared Kanopy's list of the 21 most-watched films in 2021. (Facebook)
- Friends and family of Steve Annis, who has been missing from Spokane for the past two weeks, are seeking answers but fearing the worst. Annis has been reported missing to local police; anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Crime Check. (KHQ Right Now)
