🌱 Volunteers Wanted For Homelessness Census + New Parking Meters

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Spokane.

Hey, people of Spokane! Sean Peek here with a brand-new edition of the Spokane Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy and chilly. High: 37 Low: 24.

Here are the top three stories in Spokane today:

  1. The City of Spokane is seeking volunteers for a point-in-time census that will help estimate the homeless population in Spokane. According to the City, the goal of the census is to "learn more about who is living in homelessness in Spokane County; why they are homeless, what barriers they are facing, as well as key data points that can impact how new programs are designed." The live count will begin in homeless shelters on Feb. 24, followed by a period of gathering information from the unsheltered population from Feb. 25 through Mar. 1. (KHQ Right Now)
  2. As the nationwide bus driver shortage continues to impact Spokane Public Schools families, the district is looking at multiple solutions to improve its transportation services. With SPS nearing the end of its five-year contract with Durham Bus Services, officials say all options — including the district having its own dedicated transportation system — are on the table. (KXLY Spokane)
  3. If you're heading downtown in February, you may notice some changes to Spokane's parking meters. The City of Spokane is planning to replace nearly 170 parking meters nearing the "end of their 2G technology life," as well as update time limits to better fit the needs of the city's drivers. Keep an eye on the status of meters with the City's On-Street Paid Parking Map! (KHQ Right Now)
