Year-Round Homeless Shelter To Open + Another La Niña Winter

  1. The City of Spokane has partnered with the Guardians Foundation to provide a year-round homeless shelter. The shelter will operate as a night-by-night, drop-in, and day-use shelter with wrap-around services. According to the press release, the daytime services include outreach and referral services for employment, housing, behavioral health, substance abuse, and other resources. The foundation will also help with case management, transportation, and temporary storage for personal belongings. (KREM.com)
  2. Looking ahead to the upcoming winter season, La Niña conditions are likely to develop for the second straight year. La Niña and El Niño is an observation of ocean temperatures anomalies near the equator in the Pacific Ocean that can have a direct impact on weather patterns globally. While it's not a perfect correlation, about six or seven out of every 10 La Nina winters in Spokane do end up colder than snowier than average. (KREM.com)

  4. The Spokane County Medical Examiner has identified the man who drowned in the Spokane River as David A. Ellis, 33, one week after his body was found. (KXLY Spokane)
  5. Philadelphia-based Gopuff launched a delivery service in Spokane and opened three micro-fulfillment centers in the area, the company announced last week. (The Spokesman-Review)
