2. 60 cats saved from abandoned Tacoma sailboat; owner tells his story (seattletimes.com) β Dozens of neglected cats have been rescued from an abandoned sailboat off Tacoma's Point Ruston, including one dramatically saved by two runners who dove into Puget Sound near Owen Beach. Police, animal control, a volunteer trapper, and bystanders ultimately got about 60 cats to the Humane Society in Tacoma, which is treating them and placing many into foster homes amid strained local spay-neuter resources.
