Today's riddle: What do you call a belt that is made of watches? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Retail Workers at Five Washington Macy's Locations Ratify Strong Contract - The United Food & Commercial Workers International Union (ufcw.org) — Macy's workers at Southcenter in Tukwila are now covered by a newly ratified three-year union contract that boosts wages, improves job flexibility, and expands insurance benefits. More than 400 UFCW Local 3000 members at locations including Tukwila, Bellingham, and Lynnwood backed the deal after months of bargaining, leafleting, and an informational picket.
2. Parent's guide to salmon-watching in Puget Sound (seattleschild.com) — Families in Tukwila can watch returning salmon this fall right in their backyard at Duwamish Gardens Park and other Green-Duwamish River sites. The guide explains kid-friendly viewing spots, basic salmon-watching etiquette, and nearby destinations across Puget Sound so you can plan easy October and November outings without traveling far from Tukwila.
3. Seattle Seahawks Announce 2026 Game Changers Program, presented by BECU (seahawks.com) — Local teens in Tukwila can again join the Seahawks' six-week Game Changers leadership program, which includes a hands-on financial literacy and cybersecurity field trip to BECU's Tukwila headquarters. Participants explore identity, bias, and using sports for change, and two youths will receive $2,500 scholarships before capping the experience with a Seahawks gameday and special teen night.
4. WA minimum wage will rise to $17.73 an hour in 2027 (seattleweekly.com) — Workers in Tukwila will see Washington's minimum wage rise to $17.73 an hour on Jan. 1, 2027, though the city's own minimum already runs higher than the state level. The change also raises the salary threshold for overtime-exempt employees at larger companies, while smaller businesses won't see that threshold increase until 2028.
