Parkinson’s Disease Foundation Presents Online Seminar on What is New in Genetics and Parkinson’s on Tuesday, September 25

Free Online and Phone Seminar for People with Parkinson’s Disease, Care Partners, Family Members and Health Care Professionals

WHAT:  “What is New in Genetics and Parkinson’s?” is a free, interactive online and phone seminar, or PD ExpertBriefing hosted by the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF). PD ExpertBriefings provide people with Parkinson's disease, families and health professionals with first-hand access to the leaders in Parkinson's disease care and research.  This PD ExpertBriefing will discuss how genetics, a promising avenue of research, may help find a cure or new treatments for Parkinson's. Online viewers will be able to ask questions directly to the faculty during the second half of the seminar. Health care professionals who participate live or within 30 days of any live PD ExpertBriefing can obtain continuing education credits. This seminar is the first in a series of six live PDExpertBriefingsto be presented this year.

WHO:  Matthew Farrer, Ph.D., is the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Neurogenetics and Translational Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada. The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation ® (PDF®) supports scientific research and ideas that will improve the lives and futures of people who are touched by Parkinson’s disease. Since its founding in 1957, PDF has invested more than $136 million in research, education and advocacy programs.

WHY:  Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects nearly one million people in the US. Although promising research is being conducted, there is currently neither a cure for Parkinson’s, nor are there medications that can reverse its course. PD ExpertBriefingsare presented by Parkinson’s experts and offer practical advice for living with Parkinson’s – including issues regarding caregiving, employment, nutrition and more – and discuss the latest scientific findings in Parkinson's.
