BITES NEARBY: Steamers Seafood Cafe

Pop on down to the waterfront for affordable and fresh seafood.

University Place residents don't have to travel far to get their own piece and taste of the Great Northwest.

With a glorious view of the Narrows Bridge off Titlow Beach, Steamers offers affordable seafood fare right outside of town.

Located at 8802 Sixth Avenue in Tacoma, as it ends with a prime spot on the water, Steamers serves up some of our seafood favorites like clam chowder, fish and chips and others.

My personal favorite is their fish tacos. Served up with a side of fries, the fish tacos are the best. Black beans and corn, a little bit of zest, wrapped in a warm tortilla. Le sigh. A close second would be the blackened salmon pesto sandwich. Think open-faced sandwich with a Cajun kick.

With the average dollar point sitting at about $10, Steamers won't break the bank either. It's perfectly priced for a relaxed, casual date night with options for a pint of beer or glass of wine. Or even an excellent pit stop for lunch and ice cream after an adventure with the kiddies turning rocks over to explore the sea life.

Outdoor seating is also available to soak in some rays and the cool ocean breeze. Now, Mother Nature, you may let summer commence.
