Soapbox Derby Race Day Is Here

The race is here and our derby car secret is out! Here's your sneak peak into the Lauzon's derby car.

With one last cut of a bolt, our derby car construction came to a close around 7 p.m. Friday night, and with a go-ahead, my husband said take pictures.

In Fircrest, spectators can plan to see 50 cars race down Electron Way for the fastest time.

The format of the race allows for the fastest preliminary time of two runs to be added to each racer’s score. Then, the top 8 racers in each age bracket will advance to the finals.

The races start at 10 a.m. with the 7-U class, and then the finals will start at 2:30 p.m.

Those who decide to watch the race can enjoy vendors, visiting sponsors of the race and even bouncy toys for the kiddos. Awards will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Also, Derby Day merchandise will be sold during the day, so bring some cash in case you’d like to show your support.

“All proceeds from this event will go to the Fircrest Parks and Recreation department to enhance equipment on the playgrounds,” according to the Derby Days Web site.

Grab your sunscreen and come by and say hi to our little racer if you have a chance.

He's ready for the race and so are we.
