Fried Chicken with Politics on the Side: Chick-fil-A to Open in Tacoma

Tacoma may get the first Chick-fil-A in the region, as the company looks at opening on Steele Street near the Tacoma Mall. 

Chick-fil-A is second to KFC nationwide in fast-food chicken service, but infamous for the vocal conservative Christian philosophies of its founder.

Chick-fil-A's leaders have been open about their views of the gay and lesbian community. The restaurant group has committed money to several anti-gay groups.

More recently, on the heels of the Supreme Court's decision to allow gay marriage last month, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy tweeted that it was a "sad day for our nation; founding fathers would be ashamed of our gen. to abandon wisdom of the ages re: cornerstone of strong societies."

Chick-fil-A is also known for closing on Sundays.

According to The Tacoma News Tribune, the company plans a restaurant with child play area that can sit 111 people. 

Developers are asking the city of Tacoma to consider zoning changes at 3902 Steele St. to include a drive-thru, which is complicated with its location. Currently, that location is a parking lot for Ashley Furniture Warehouse--formally Borders Books & Music.
