Important message about the train derailment emergency notification…
The Pierce County Department of Emergency Management launched two Pierce County ALERT messages to all University Place residents within a mile of the train derailment on Saturday evening, asking residents to stay indoors until the hazardous materials could be assessed. The first was at about 9:50 p.m. and the follow-up call saying that there was no longer a danger was launched at 1:15 a.m. on Sunday morning.
