Curtis Viola Player Clocks Lots Of Air Miles
Caitlyn Fukai has had a busy senior year. From performances to college to having fun, it seems like she's been everywhere. She shares her story with Patch.

The last few weeks have been some of the busiest I have ever experienced.
From Los Angeles one week to Orlando the next, it was definitely a rollercoaster. In a span of three days I had heard from every college I applied to, some bad news, and some great news. I am just glad that that part of senior year is over!
In March, I faced the biggest audition of my life for the Colburn School in LA. Colburn is quickly becoming one of the biggest and best music conservatories in the United States and across the globe, so the fact that I even made it past pre-screening was a huge shock. Though I was rejected from the school, the experience will help me in the future with high pressure auditions.

After California, I travelled to Disney World with the high school’s orchestra and choir for a national competition. The choir did well, winning first place in their division. The orchestra did even better, winning first place in two divisions and also overall best orchestra in the competition. This amazing victory was all due to Mr. Westgaard, our wonderful director, who has lead the orchestra to countless wins since he began teaching at Curtis.
Now that all this travelling is done, all that is left for the school year is the state competition for solo and ensemble, AP exams, and confirm my acceptance for college before May 1!

After all this, graduation will be just around the corner. Fifteen years in the UP school district, and it’s almost over, I still can’t believe it!
