Early-Literacy Events Planned Today At Pierce County Libraries
Read for the Record event to feature readings of "Llama Llama Red Pajama" across the country -- and in the U.P. branch.

Children will have fun reading and support early literacy in a nationwide reading day during free events at Pierce County Library System today.
Families and caregivers with young children will participate in Read for the Record, a national early-literacy event where children all over the country read the same book on the same day. Children will be part of setting a reading record as they listen to library staff read “Llama Llama Red Pajama” by Anna Dewdney. All events take place today, Oct. 6.

There will be readings at noon and 4 p.m. at the University Place branch, 3609 Market Place W.
More than 50 child care providers served by Pierce County Library System will participate in Read for the Record and will receive a free copy of the book.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, presented by Founding National Partner and Presenting Sponsor The Pearson Foundation, brings national attention to the importance of early education by organizing the world’s largest celebration of reading, community service and fun.
Each year, the campaign sets a world record for the most children reading the same book with an adult on the same day. Thousands of reading events are hosted by governors, mayors, schools, businesses, libraries, individuals and other organizations—all to raise awareness of the importance of early education.
