Election Night Results Show West Pierce Fire Levy Passing in Primary

Residents of the West Pierce Fire District are deciding whether or not to approve a $22.3 million replacement levy to maintain current service levels in the district.

TheΒ first wave ofΒ resultsΒ from the August 6 Primary Election are in, and the numbers show theΒ West Pierce Fire and RescueΒ levy is passing among voters in the fire district.

As of 8:15 p.m. on Election Night, 68.53 percent of voters said yes to approving the levy, while 31.47 percent ofΒ voters said no. In all, 11,029 ballots have been received thus far, with nearly 24 percent turnout among all registered voters.

The fire district,Β serving the communities of University Place and Lakewood,Β has requested $22.3 million over two yearsΒ to fundΒ 38 percentΒ of the fire district’s operating budget, toΒ avoid staffing cuts or a reduction in service.
