ELECTION: What University Place Needs To Know
Spots on the University Place City Council, University Place School Board and the West Pierce Fire District Commission are up for grabs.

The general election in University Place is tomorrow, and voters will decide on a slew of candidates for public office.
The University Place City Council, the University Place School Board and the West Pierce Fire Commission have seats up for grabs.

Outside of local races, University Place residents will also be voting on an issue pertaining to Pierce County -- (Resolution No. R2011-87). South Sound 911 proposes improvements to the 9-1-1 emergency
communication system through funding from county residents. If passed, it would authorize a countywide, one-tenth of one percent (0.01 percent) local sales and use tax to fund costs associated with financing, design, acquisition,
construction, equipping, operating, maintaining, remodeling, repairing and re-equipping the county's 9-1-1 emergency communication system and the facilities infrastructure.

There are five statewide initiatives that will need your vote as well. Check the Secretary of State site here for more information.
Initiative Measure 1125: Concerning state expenditures on transportation.
Initiative Measure 1163: Concerning long-term care workers and services for elderly and disabled people.
Initiative Measure 1183: Concerning liquor: beer, wine, and spirits (hard liquor).
Senate Joint Resolution 8205: Concerning the length of time a voter must reside in Washington to vote for president and vice president.
Senate Joint Resolution 8206: Concerning the budget stabilization account maintained in the state treasury.
