Adults Arrested After Fight Over Kids' Elementary School Spat

University Place officers fought with an armed man and woman at a 7-Eleven. An elementary school fight was behind the ruckus.

UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA - A fight at a Tacoma elementary school six months ago led to an armed struggle at a University Place 7-Eleven Wednesday involving two Pierce County deputies.

The deputies went to the 7-Eleven along Orchard Street after a report that a man was threatening a woman there with a gun. Police found the armed man inside the store, but he disobeyed the officers' orders to put his hands behind his back, police reported.

A struggle ensued, and a woman tried to stop the deputies from arresting the man. In the midst of the struggle, a .38 caliber revolver fell out of the man's pants.

Police eventually got the two suspects into handcuffs. Police questioned the two suspects and two witnesses, discovering the four adults were in a feud because their kids had fought at school last year.

The 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm, third-degree assault, obstructing police, and resisting arrest. The 29-year-old woman was arrested on charges of obstructing police and resisting arrest.
