Foraging Classes

Free-roaming foraging: Finding food in abandoned orchards, ornamental landscapes, and native ecologies.

Event at King's Books, June 14th, 7pm, $10-$5 Sliding scale.

Followed by a plant walk on Thursday June 23rd, 6pm, at Swan Creek Park (Pioneer Way entrance by Clay Art Center). $10-$5 sliding scale.

On the 14th we'll do a classroom session (slideshow/samples) of common edibles in this area. This will include an introduction to gleaning by the Pierce County Gleaners. Then we'll also talk about all the food parts that are produced by common ornamental plants, weeds, native forest plants, etc. Additionally, we'll discuss what pollutants to watch out for, and how we can be protecting more land which grows native plant edibles.

On the 23rd we'll visit the plants in person. We'll meet at lower Swan Creek Park, and probably spend time looking at the 'weeds' in the parking lot before heading into the forest. We'll meet plants individually and also discuss seasonal trends and harvesting timelines, etc. Please register for this portion by emailing kelda@riseup.net, and bring exact change.

These classes can be attended together or separately. Cost is $10-$5 sliding scale for each
