Gutierrez Funeral: University Place Traffic May Be Affected

LAKEWOOD, WA - A planned funeral procession for Reginald "Jake" Gutierrez, the Tacoma officer killed last week in the line of duty, may impact traffic in University Place Friday morning.

The procession route will begin at the north gate of Joint Base Lewis-McChord along 112th Street South. But well before that, at around 5 a.m., thousands of vehicles from law enforcement and fire agencies around the region are expected to head into the base.

The procession to the Tacoma Dome could potentially cut off access to I-5 via surface streets. The processeion will begin around 10 a.m. at JBLM and head northbound along South Tacoma Way all the way to the Tacoma Dome.
