Local Author Speaks At Pierce County Libraries In March

Speaking events in Pierce County this month include local author Omari Amili and internationally-recognized writer Jessamyn Stanley.

From Pierce County Library: After enjoying a crowd-pleasing afternoon with author Kristin Hannah, the Pierce County Library System continues to celebrate 2019 as A Year of Reading with events featuring local author Omari Amili and internationally-recognized writer Jessamyn Stanley. “We heard the community when they said they want more books and more activities around books,” said the Library System’s Executive Director Georgia Lomax. “We declared 2019 A Year of Reading, and we are bringing in the next round of authors to continue to foster Pierce County’s love of reading.”

Amili grew up in the Spanaway area and was a product of what’s often referred to as the “school-to-prison pipeline” until education changed his life. Hear his story and explore how education can decrease an individual’s chances of returning to prison and benefit the entire community. Presented in partnership with Humanities Washington.
