Love Labor & Loss: Documentary Screening and Fundraiser

Love, Labor and Loss s a powerful documentary about childbirth in the developing world, revealing the painfully difficult lives of African women living with obstetric fistula.

"What is fistula? Women with fistula are sometimes raped, but more often are just victims of what's called obstructed labor. Obstructed labor occurs when a baby can not leave it's mother's womb for whatever reason. Fistula is it's result. Without a C-section, the baby's body grinds and grinds against the pelvis/ and pelvic organs, creating a lack of blood flow between two organs in the pelvic cavity. The tissue in the area of pressure dies and a hole, or fistula, forms. The baby dies and comes out in parts and pieces and the mother is left leaking urine and or feces uncontrollably.  So all in all, this woman will leak for the rest of her life if she doesn't get surgery to fix it, she loses her baby, and her family abandons her.

Not only do I care about these women, but I want to convince others that they should care as well. The more people I can get at the event, the better. A panel of trained medical professionals on hand to answer questions about fistula.
hort documentary shown entitled " Love, Labor, Loss", and depicts the lives of African women living with obstetric fistula."

The event is sponsored by Charles Wright Academy and Multicare. Menchie's of Gig Harbor is providing free refreshments. Please spread the word! Open to the public.
