Man Dies On SR 16 After Suffering 'Medical Issue'

The man struck another vehicle Wednesday morning after suffering a medical issue as he drove onto 16 from Union Avenue.

TACOMA, WA - A 66-year-old man died Wednesday morning after suffering a medical issue while driving near State Route 16.

The accident happened around 8 a.m. in Tacoma, Washington State Patrol said. The man, James L. Bowen of Tacoma, was driving eastbound on Union Avenue heading toward State Route 16. When Bowen suffered the medical issue, he lost control of his vehicle and struck another vehicle driven by a 30-year-old Tacoma woman.

Bowen's car kept going toward 16, entered the highway, and crashing into the center barrier. Bowen's car, a Dodge Ram van, was totaled and towed from the scene. State police identified the cause of the crash as medical. They do not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a role.
