Β

THIS CAMPAIGN:

What is the primary reason you are running for this office?

Our community has come to expect University Place School District to pursue excellence by setting high standards, encouraging hard work, and demanding accountability for results. I want to continue serving the community, sustaining positive trends in student achievement, while extending a tradition of teamwork among motivated students, involved families, supportive taxpayers, and dedicated staff, whose goal is to ensure all our students become competent, contributing citizens, healthy, physically fi t, and grounded in character

Β

What will be your top three priorities if you get elected and why?

1. Maintain the board’s focus on establishing long-range vision (results to be achieved) and monitoring to assure accountability for district performance, while protecting the staff’s role in deciding the best means to achieve the board’s vision.

2. Support the superintendent’s focus on core classroom-level priorities (e.g. instruction as the key to student learning)

2. Preserve the district’s commitment to the arts, physical health/fitness, and academics as a fully rounded educational experience.

Β

What sets you apart from the other candidates and/or previous office holders?

I don’t believe that I am indispensable – the success of the board-as-a-whole is what matters to me. [Caveat: I am not really alone in holding this value.Β  There are others who share it.]

Β

How much money do you expect your campaign to spend on this election?

I have no anticipated expenses.
