POLL: Will You Cheer For the Seattle Sup ... Wait ... Oklahoma City Thunder in the Finals?

The region's former NBA basketball team earned a trip to the finals Wednesday with a victory over the San Antonio Spurs.

UPDATE: 6/12/12, 12:25 p.m.

Well, based on the poll (below) that we ran last week, it appears Patch users won't be wearing OKC blue and orange when the NBA Finals begin tonight.

Coincidentally enough, a couple of sports writers weighed in on their own publications today.

Locally, The News Tribune's John McGrath wrote about how Oklahoma City was the team that got away.

Up north, Danny O'Neil of The Seattle Times wrote that his heart would be in South Beach this series.

Here's a summary: It sounds as if the Miami Heat will have a whole region's worth of fans.

And as a loyal supporter of the former Seattle Supersonics, I will only say one thing:

Go get 'em, Heat.

Well, the inevitable thing that I never wanted to happen has inevitably happened.

The Oklahoma City Thunder, known to people such as myself as the former Seattle Supersonics, are in the NBA Finals.

The organization that used to ignite this region has now done the same in Oklahoma, where nothing is supersonic. That's no knock on the good people of OKC, but even you've got to admit that your team's run might sting for us fans in the Northwest.

OKC's team used to be our team. Its star our star. Everything that they're going through right now, we've gone through the same and more.

Sure, there's hope for NBA fans here in the but given regional lawmakers' track record of keeping a team - let alone bringing one back - nothing is certain.

But that's a discussion for another day. For now, I want to know from you, Patch users here in the Northwest, whether you'll be cheering for Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals.
