Pulitzer Prize Winner, Sonia Nazario To Speak At TCC

The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Tuesday at Tacoma Community College. The school's Artist Lecture Series is free and open to the public.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sonia Nazario will speak about her experiences and social issues such as hunger, drug addiction and immigration Tuesday at Tacoma Community College.

Deemed one of the most influential Latinos by Hispanic Business Magazineas being one of the youngest people hired onto the Wall Street Journal staff, she is undoubtedly a powerful and positive public figure.

Nazario won the Pulitzer Prize as a reporter for the Los Angeles Times for her vivid story of a Honduran boy trying to enter the United States, which was hailed at the time as the grittiest, most honest narrative of immigrants risking everything to come to the U.S. Her story was adapted into a book, "Enrique's Journey."

Nazario's appearance is provided via the Student Life program at Tacoma Community College, which features three to four speakers per quarter. The speakers are nationally renowned, and they cover cultures, lifestyles and circumstance - all of which affect students today.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m., in the Student Center, Bldg. 11, and it is free and open to the public. For more information on TCC's Artist and Lecture Series, click here.
