FROM THE PAC-12 TOURNEY: Run Ends for WSU and Lake Tapps' Katie Grad

The Cougars surprised many with wins against Oregon and USC, but they couldn't muster enough against a bigger, quicker California team Friday.

LOS ANGELES-The surprise run of the resurrected Washington State University women's basketball team - including Lake Tapps' Katie Grad - ended Friday at the Pac-12 Tournament.

Playing their third game in as many days, the Cougars went into halftime tied with the California Bears but ran out of gas in a 64-49 loss at the Staples Center.

Still, WSU opened many eyes this season, as the school surpassed expectations under Coach June Daugherty, particularly with injuries to players early in the season.

As for the local girl, redshirt junior Grad, it quite an experience. The Auburn Riverside product controlled the ball much of the time for the Cougars. She was held scoreless against the Bears but did collect three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Although the loss was disappointing, Daugherty said afterward that the tournament experience boosted the Cougars' confidence more than anything else.

"The Cougars are back," she said afterward.

Other action Friday

A day after eliminating No. 1 seed Washington, Oregon State ran out of gas against Arizona in a 72-61 loss.

Kyle Fogg scored 22 points, and Nick Perry had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats, who will play in the championship game and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

For OSU, Roberto Nelson scored 19 points and NBA prospect Jared Cunningham added 14 points. The loss marked the end of a run in which OSU beat and stunned the .
