The List: Down On the Farm, The Farmer's Markets That Is

Nothing says spring (and summer) more than our fantastic local farmer's markets. Get ready for a quick tour of some of the best markets around town. Bonus: some have already started.

Beautiful rows and rows of delicious, colorful, fresh veggies.

Juicy and sweet fresh picked fruits.

Just-baked breads. Just-caught fish. Oodles of flowers in bursts of brilliant color.

Sun or sprinkles, blue skies or gray, our hearty and plentiful local farmer's markets are about to kick off their annual season. Best yet, some already have.

Many of our markets boast the full-meal deal, meaning that you can literally buy, fresh, your entire dinner, from the appetizers to main course to dessert.

Steilacoom Farmer's Market (Steilacoom Town Hall)

Why here: This market boasts positively stunning views of the Puget Sound, islands and ferries while offering a lively and varied market experience. Minutes from University Place and Lakewood. Details: Wednesdays, 3 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., starts June 15.

 

South Tacoma Market (South 56th and Washington, Tacoma)

Why here: This newer market serves a neighborhood that hasn't had a farmer's market nearby (and it's a quick jaunt from University Place and Fircrest, too). A cool and breezy Sunday vibe, this market gives you the best to offer for Sunday supper. Details: Sundays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., June 5 to Sept. 25.

 

Tacoma Farmer's Market (downtown Tacoma on Broadway)

Why here: This longtime, bustling market gives you the best of many worlds. Fantastic product, lively entertainment, great eats, cool vendors, and that cool downtown vibe. This is a great market to people watch, eat lunch amongst the market goers, and revel in downtown. Details: Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 5 through Oct. 27.

 

6th Avenue Farmer's Market (6th and Pine, Tacoma)

Why here: This urban, cool market has a great neighborhood vibe, terrific vendors and a great spirit. Watch local chefs from some of the fantastic 6th Avenue. restaurants select fresh fare from the farmer's for the evening's meal. Details: Tuesdays, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., May 5 through Sept. 27.

 

Proctor Farmer's Market (N. 27th and Proctor, Tacoma)

Why here: This market has taken it to a whole 'nother level. Being the first to offer a “winter's market,” this rapidly growing market is lively and fun. Great offerings from a variety of vendors. Some great people-watching (and seems to have the most adorable pups around town proudly walking with their owners). Details: Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 26 to Nov. 19.

 

Gig Harbor Farmer's Market (Uptown Gig Harbor)

Why here: Double your fun with this great market just minutes across the Narrows Bridge and the terrific Uptown business district. This terrific and family friendly market runs two days per week - which is the best part. Details: Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Wednesdays, noon to 5 p.m., June through September.
