U.P. Businessman Gets 30 Days In Prison For Tax Crimes: DOJ

UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA - A local businessman who owned two Pierce County sports memorabilia stores will got to jail for 30 days for failing to pay payroll taxes, according to the Seattle U.S. Attorney. Donald Knutsen, 54, pleaded guilty in April to withholding over $234,000 in taxes.
Knutsen, who opened Northwest Sportscards locations in Tacoma and University Place, will go to jail for 30 days, and will have to pay back the taxes he withheld, according to U.S. Attorney Annette L. Hayes.
Knutsen allegedly failed to withhold income tax, social security, and Medicare taxes between 2008 and 2016 from the paychecks of 51 different employees. Knutsen has so far paid back $82,500 of the total amount owed, according to federal authorities.
