UPDATE: Open House for New University Place Police Department Is Postponed
The contracted department's headquarters are now in the Civic Building at Town Center. The open house runs from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. 19.

The open house for the new police station that was scheduled for today is off due to the inclement weather.

The City of University Place will hold an Open House on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 4 to 5 p.m. at its 3609 Market Place West, Suite 201.
The public is invited and encouraged to join with the City Council, University Place commission members, city staff, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and University Place Police Department personnel in a ribbon cutting and presentations, which will begin promptly at 4 p.m. Tours of the facility will follow the program.

Until November of 2011, the University Place Police Department had been located in the Public Safety Building at 3631 Drexler Drive West, sharing the building with As fire services merged, creating a need for more space, and offices in the Civic Building became available, the Police Department planned its move to a new headquarters there.

The City of University Place contracts with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department for its police services. The arrangement allows the city to retain a high level of local control in the law enforcement conducted within its borders, maintaining its own Chief of Police, Rusty Wilder, as well as a Public Safety Manager, officers and other staff.
