Want To Avoid Labor Day Traffic? Check These WSDOT Charts

If you want to avoid Labor Day traffic around Puget Sound, you should've left at 6 a.m. Friday.

UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA - You might as well just stay home and grill in the backyard this Labor Day weekend. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the best time to leave Friday to avoid traffic was, well, earlier than anyone was awake this morning. Traffic will pick up Friday afternoon and won't subside until 11 p.m. Friday, according to the estimates.

The state has compiled estimates for the four busiest routes in the state: Olympia to Tacoma; I-90 over Snoqualmie Pass; U.S. 2 over Stevens Pass; and the Canadian border crossing at the end of I-5. You can check each route here.

The bad news: You should've already left to avoid bad traffic heading southbound through Tacoma and Olympia.

But the other routes heading eastbound across the passes or north to Canada won't start heating up until about noon. Keep in mind, WSDOT thought that bridge deck repairs along I-90 would be complete by Labor Day, but the work isn't complete. Expect heavy traffic approaching Snoqualmie Pass due to lane switches.

Like we said, you could just stay home and grill in the backyard this weekend.
