Man Crushed By Rocks In National Forest Near Index
The 21-year-old man died Friday afternoon while hiking near Heybrook Lookout.

INDEX, WA - A 21-year-old man died near Index on Friday afternoon after a rock fell on him, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. Technical rescue assistance was called to the scene near Index around 1:30 p.m. but when first responders reached the scene, the reported it as an "obvious DOA." The man was pinned between two large rocks, according to reports from the scene, and technical rescue teams were in the area to recover the body.
According to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, the man was scrambling across a rock field near Heybrook Lookout when a rock came loose and hit him. Heybrook Lookout is is located in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest just east of Index.
The man's identity has not yet been released.
