2 Canoeists Missing From Skykomish River Found Safe

The rescue mission for two missing canoeists along the Skykomish got underway shortly before noon Monday.

UPDATE: Just before 3 p.m., the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office reported that the canoeists had been found. The two men were able to swim to shore after their canoe flipped, and walked to a home to call for assistance.

GOLD BAR, WA - Two canoeists went missing along the Skykomish River Monday after their canoe flipped over, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. A witness called 911 after seeing the overturned canoe floating down the river. The search mission was underway near the Big Eddy river access point off Highway 2 east of Gold Bar.

The two men were reportedly not wearing life jackets. The canoe was recovered from the river, but the men were still missing as of 12:30 p.m. Monday. The Sheriff's Office Dive Team and helicopter, SnoHawk1, were searching the area.
