Body Of Missing Man With Dementia Found In Skykomish River

Olaf Eriksen, 71, had been missing since June 19, according to police.

SULTAN, WA - The body of a missing 71-year-old man from Gold Bar was found in the Skykomish River Thursday afternoon. The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office reported on Monday that Olaf Eriksen had been gone missing. He was last seen walking away from his home around 1:30 p.m. Monday, and police said that he suffered from dementia.

Police found some of Eriksen's belongings near the river along the 800 block of Croft Avenue in Gold Bar. Authorities searched the area following the disappearance, but did not find any other signs of Eriksen.

On Thursday, three fishermen located Eriksen's body around 12:30 p.m. in the river near a residential area between Monroe and Sultan.

A cause of death will be determined later by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner.
