Congratulations to Bothell High School senior Harrison Pulido who received a scholarship from Cascade Warbirds. Pulido used the scholarship to complete ground school to help him on his path to become a private pilot. Pulido was one of four students who were awarded the scholarship. Three of the four students went on to compete for a $2,500 Continuing Aviation Education Grant. To qualify, applicants were required to complete the ground school course, introductory flights and submit an essay. Pulido was selected for the grant and he intends to pursue his flight training with Snohomish Flying Service at Harvey Field.

“When I received the news that I had won I was very excited, humbled and grateful. I have been financing my training and it has been challenging at times. It’s expensive and I have had to be creative coming up with ways to pay for it,” said Pulido.

His drive to become a private pilot is because of the thrill flying brings him.

“When flying there is no limit,” he said. “It is a feeling of freedom, limitlessness and excitement like no other.”

He shared about his visits to Paine Field growing up where he’d watch planes and the inspiration from those visits that fueled his desire to fly.

“The waiting was the hardest part,” said Pulido, referring to the wait he endured to be able to fly himself. “That all helped inspire me and motivate me and I am relentlessly pursuing my goal.”

In an effort to get closer to accomplishing his goal, Pulido enrolled in Aviation: Introduction to Flight, one of the District’s Career & College Readiness courses located at North Creek High School. Through the class, he learned more about flying and it inspired him even more, he said. He draws inspiration from seeing people do what they love and -- whether that be a doctor, teacher or pilot.

“I see people love what they do and I want that for myself,” he said. “It will be hard but nothing worth doing is ever easy.”

Pulido’s Career and College Readiness Counselor at Bothell High, B.J. Dawson nominated Pulido for the scholarship. When asked why he thought Pulido was a good fit for the recognition, Dawson said, “It was his passion and interest that he expressed to me on the subject. He’s the type of student I knew would be extremely interested in the opportunity. He’s a doer. When he has an interest in something and is given an opportunity, he acts and follows through.”
