Boys Track: Sodorff Leads Woodinville at Shoreline Invitational
Austin Sodorff finished second in the pole vault to pace Woodinville athletes at the 24th annual Shoreline Invitational all boys track and field meet.
Woodinville junior Austin Sodorff put on a strong showing in the pole vault competition to lead athletes in the Shoreline Invitational all-boys track and field meet on April 30 at Shoreline Stadium in Shoreline.
Sodorff battled against Marcus Schooley of A.C. Davis in a friendly competition pitting the top two pole vaulters in the state for 4A. The duo were the only two competitors to clear 14 feet. Schooley took the competition with a score of 14 feet, six inches, while Sodorff topped out at 14 feet.
“When I come into a meet like this, I feel like it’s just practice,” Sodorff said of competing against such a diverse group. “It’s no big deal at all.”

Jeff Willie finished tied for 19th in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 8 inches. Willie attempted 5’10, but just nicked the bar to fall just short of matching his personal best.
The meet brought out 83 schools and over 1,000 athletes to compete, the largest in the Northwest and arguably features the best assembly of talent in the state. State leaders in nearly every event were featured, including stars Kasen Williams of Skyline, Alec Fellows of Edmonds-Woodway, P.J. Benedictus of Renton amongst others.
Fellows highlighted the field, shattering the meet record in the 110 meter hurdles, albeit unofficially. A clock malfunction prevented his hand-clocked time of 14.10 seconds from being an official record. Fellows also finished 6th in the 200 meter dash.
Williams and Benedictus squared off in the high jump, with each gunning for a height of 7 feet. Both fell short, but drew a large crowd as Williams took the event with a jump of 6’6. Williams also won the long jump competition.
Other highlights includedCurtis Clauson of King’s blowing away the field in the javelin throw with a score of 208. The closest competitor checked in at 193 feet.
Justin Bennett of Renton took over the state lead, all classes, in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.68 seconds. Bennett also leads the 2A state in the 200 meters.
