Falcons defeat Redmond, 28-7

Not even the pouring rain could stop the Falcons from rolling to their 6^th victory of the season, winning 28-7 against the Redmond Mustangs.

The rain started early in the second half and didn’t let up until the final seconds of the game ticked off the clock and the Falcons had secured a victory.

This win improves Woodinville’s record to 6-1 overall, with their last regular season game coming up next week against rival Bothell.

Facing a Redmond team that had only one win this season, Woodinville may not have been as ready as they should be. Redmond put the first touchdown on the board with a 2-yard run by sophomore running back Bryce Steckler with 4:40 left to go in the first quarter.

After both teams had their share of three and outs, Woodinville marched down the field and scored on a 27-yard run by QB Caleb Hamilton with 26.9 left in the first quarter to tie up the score, 7-7.

A Woodinville fumble halfway through the second quarter gave Redmond another opportunity to take the lead, but they couldn’t make the plays needed to move the ball on offense.

Woodinville managed to score right before halftime with a 2-yard run by Alek Kacmarcik to take a 14-7 advantage into the break.

The late first half touchdown gave Woodinville momentum and they came out much more focused in the second half to shut down Redmond.

With 4:58 left to go in the third quarter, Kacmarcik scored another touchdown for the Falcons on a 2-yard run to make the score 21-7.

Kacmarcik, both a wide receiver and a defensive back, talked about how playing both offense and defense is, “tough, but farther you get into the season, the better conditioned you get. I’m getting in the swing of it and it’s looking pretty good.”

Kacmarcik finished the game with those two touchdowns, an additional 60 yards rushing, as well as three solo tackles on defense.

In the fourth quarter, it seemed like everything was going Woodinville’s way. Ian Biddle intercepted the ball with 10:46 left to go and on Woodinville's ensuing possesion, RB Niko Liera scored off of a 18-yard run to the left to make the score 28-7, which would prove to be the final points of the night.

Looking back, both Woodinville’s defensive and offensive squads stepped up and made the big plays needed to win the game.

QB Caleb Hamilton was 12 for 21 for 92 yards, RB Niko Liera had 17 carries for 103 yards, and the defense combined for a total of 31 solo tackles as well as 3 sacks.

Woodinville’s Sean Willie gave a lot of credit to “QB Caleb Hamilton [who] was a big playmaker in the game on offense, as well as RB Niko Liera.”

“We came out really flat in the first half and we went into the locker room and we discussed how we were just going to come out in the second half harder and more focused,” said Willie. 

QB Hamilton echoed Willie, saying how: “We wanted to come out and show them what were made of and blow them out, but we didn’t exactly do that. However, we came back strong and we finished the game. We have a lot to work on going into next week.”
