Help Swerve Robotics Club get to the World Championships!

Local robotics club has urgent need to raise funds for upcoming trip to world championships

Woodinville-based Swerve Robotics Club has won one of only two coveted spots representing the state of Washington available to Washington FIRST Tech Challenge robotics teams (www.firstwa.org/ftc). This win has qualified the team for the World Championships, which will take place in St. Louis, MO next month. Participating in a competition of this scale is an extraordinary opportunity and the club could really use our community’s help.

The club has an urgent need to raise money for their upcoming trip. While many FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams are affiliated with schools and have access to grants and other sources of funding, Swerve is a community-based club that is not associated with a school. The club relies solely on the generosity of families, neighbors and sponsors as well as their own fundraising efforts to meet the club’s financial needs. Such needs include team registration, tournament fees, parts, related supplies, as well as travel scholarships.

Swerve Robotics Club is a community-based, self-funded club that welcomes all. Swerve serves students K-12 from public, private and home schools from the Woodinville, Bothell, Carnation, Snohomish areas and beyond. The club is unique in that it offers a robotics program to students who might not otherwise have access to such a program. The club takes a hands-on approach to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education. Working alongside mentors, students apply real-world math and science concepts and develop problem solving, organizational, leadership and team building skills.Β  Through the FIRST organization, students may also qualify for over $16 million in college scholarships. Swerve participates in the Washington State University’s 4-H Engineering and Technology Program, a youth development education program. Learn more about 4-H tech programs at http://snohomish.wsu.edu/4h/engineering.htmΒ  For more information about FIRST, visit www.usfirst.org.
